Football Falls To No. 19 Kutztown, 42-30

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2011) – No. 19 Kutztown University spotted itself a 21-0 lead in the first half and that made the difference as the Golden Bears held off C.W. Post for a 42-30 win Saturday afternoon in a PSAC East clash on Hickox Field.
 
Kutztown improves to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC East.  The loss drops C.W. Post to 4-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
 
Kevin Morton passed for 458 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Golden Bears to victory.  In all, Kutztown racked up 576 yards of offense on 74 plays.
 
The Golden Bears scored in each of their three drives in the first quarter, beginning at 9:37 when Josh Smith caught a 15-yard pass from Morton.  Kutztown add to its lead with another touchdown in its next drive as Josh Mastromatto rushed in for a 3-yard score at 6:34.  Morton found an open Colby Truell for a 15-yard pass at 00:53.
 
C.W. Post got its offense down in the second and got on the board when freshman Marc Montana (East Amherst, N.Y.) kicked a 37-yard field goal at 8:14.  The Pioneers scored their first of two touchdowns in the half when Laurino completed a pass to sophomore Kyle Hardy (Matawan, N.Y.) at 2:01.  Their second TD came with 44 seconds remaining and sophomore Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) broke through on a 2-yard dash.
 
At the half, Kutztown was ahead, 21-17.
 
In the third quarter, Kutztown scored in the opening drive as Mastromatto carried the ball in from the C.W. Post 2-yard line. 
 
The Pioneers then scored their third touchdown of the day to keep pace as Laurino fired an 11-yard pass to sophomore Joe Botti (Holtsville, N.Y.) at 5:33.
 
Kutztown scored again at the start of the fourth quarter as Morton fired a 68-yard pass to Troy Foster, who carried the ball down the sidelines and into the endzone.
 
The Golden Bears put the game further out of reach when Jason Ulmer picked off a throw from Laurino, setting up for a seven play, 74-yard drive that resulted in a 46-yard TD dash from Curtis Wortham to put the visitors ahead, 42-23.
 
C.W. Post scored on their final drive of the game as sophomore Jeff Mack (Bronx, N.Y.) dodged his way into the Kutztown endzone for a 16-yard score with 45 seconds remaining in regulation.
 
Wortham led the game in rushing with 95 yards and one touchdown.  Mastromatto caught 11 passes for 131 yards while Erik Frazier hauled in 10 for 173 yards for the Golden Bears.
 
Laurino finished the game completing 27 of 47 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns and carried the ball 16 times for 50 yards.
 
Kutztown's defense was tough against the Pioneers with seven sacks, nine tackles for loss, three interceptions, 11 pass break ups and one block.
 
The Pioneers were led in tackles by Antonio Powell-Fields (Hempstead, N.Y.) with 12 while Casey Biasi (Islip, N.Y.) made 10 tackles. 
 
C.W. Post returns to action to take on No. 2 Bloomsburg on the road next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
