Women's Basketball Selected Second In ECC Preseason Poll
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2011) – The C.W. Post women's basketball team has been selected to finish second in the East Coast Conference this season.
St. Thomas Aquinas was voted as the top school by the conference coaches with 75 points and received five first-place votes. C.W. Post was second with 67 points and two first place votes, followed by Dowling with 61 points. Bridgeport placed fourth and received one first-place vote while Molloy was fifth and also received a first-place vote. ECC newcomer University of the District of Columbia enters the poll ranked sixth. NYIT, Queens and Mercy close out the field of nine.
Senior Briana Sloper of St. Thomas Aquinas was voted the Preseason Player of the Year.
C.W. Post is coming off a 17-13 season in 2010-11, where the team, under head coach
Deirdre Moore, captured the ECC title for the first time since 2001 and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
The Pioneers return three starters in senior
Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), and juniors
Nicolette Maraciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) and welcomes four newcomers to the 11-person squad.
C.W. Post opens its season on Nov. 12 on the road against Philadelphia.
