Five Players Score In Doubles To Lead Women's Basketball Past Caldwell, 79-70

OAKDALE, N.Y. (Nov. 26, 2011) – Five players scored in double figures to lead C.W. Post to a 79-70 win over Caldwell College in the opening game of the Dowling Classic women's basketball tournament Saturday afternoon at Golden Lion Gym.
 
C.W. Post improves to 4-1 overall while Caldwell slips to 1-3.
 
Junior Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds along with a block.  Senior guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored a team-high 18 points while junior guard Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) added 13.  Sophomore Kenyatta Sears (Hampton, Va.) poured in 11 points and senior graduate Catherine Lutz (Easton, Pa.) scored 10 for the Pioneers.
 
C.W. Post shot .472 (34 of 72) from field goal range, including 5 of 14 from behind the arc, and went 6-for-8 at the charity stripe.  Caldwell shot .394 (26 of 66) from the field, including 3 of 15 from long range, and went 15-for-22 at the charity stripe.
 
The Pioneers started the game on an 18-7 run and never relinquished the lead throughout the game.  They held a 48-39 lead at the half. 
 
The Cougars threatened midway through the second half as they cut the lead to three (57-54) after a layup from Jeannette Anderson at 11:32.  But that was as close as the would come to catching the Pioneers for the remainder of the game as the visiting team maintained the lead and gradually built it back up to double digits in the final two and a half minutes of play.  Anderson scored the game's final basket with a jumper at the 5-second mark.
 
Anderson led the Cougars with a game-high 24 points on 10 of 17 shooting from the field and pulled down nine rebounds.
 
C.W. Post is right back in action on Sunday as it takes on Felician College at 2 p.m. at Dowling.
