No. 6 Men's Soccer Falls To NYIT in ECC Final, 1-0
Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2011) – Danilo Hernandez scored in the 13th minute to give the second-seeded Bears a 1-0 lead, and it would be the only score NYIT would need as they held onto the victory over the sixth-ranked and top-seeded C.W. Post men's soccer team in the East Coast Conference Championships Final.
C.W. Post suffers just its second loss of the season and now stands at 16-2-1 overall, while NYIT improves to 14-3-2. Both teams will await the NCAA regional selection, taking place on Monday night, to find out if their seasons will continue in NCAA East Regional action.
Javier Gallardo, who was named the Most Outstanding Player, sent a cross from the right corner to Hernandez at 12:45 into the first half. Hernandez headed a low, bouncing shot into the lower left corner for the goal.
The wind played a role in the game, knocking down a majority of balls played in the air, and it was reflected in the final statistics, as NYIT took five shots to the Pioneers' four. CWP held a 7-1 edge in corners. Sophomore goalkeeper
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) made one save in goal for the Pioneers.
