No. 1 Men's Lacrosse Cruises To 18-2 Victory Over American International

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2011)
– The No. 1 C.W. Post men's lacrosse team cruised to an 18-2 victory over American International Sunday afternoon on Hickox Field.
 
C.W. Post improves to 5-0 overall while AIC drops its season opener to 0-1.
 
Junior attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) led the way for the Pioneers with four goals and an assist. Meanwhile, junior attacker Justin Patterson (Corning, N.Y.) dished out five assists in the game.
 
The Pioneers built up an 8-0 lead through the first quarter with a pair of goals from Plompen, senior attacker Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and senior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.). Senior midfielder Tim Russo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored the final goal of the quarter on a pass from Patterson Patterson registered three assists in the quarter.
 
The scoring continued for the Pioneers as they tallied five more goals in second quarter. Senior attacker Vito Minerva (Nesconset, N.Y.), junior attacker Owen Campbell (Massapequa, N.Y.), and junior attacker Tom Giordano (Garden City, N.Y.) were among the goal scorers for C.W. Post.
 
The Yellow Jackets snapped the scoreless streak with a pair of goals from Aaron McNab.
 
Freshman attacker Connor Mackay (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) scored three straight goals for a hat trick and freshman attacker Alex Canet (Paris, France) tallied the game's final goal on a pass from Giordano with 43 seconds to play.
 
C.W. Post outshot the Yellow Jackets, 46-22, and held a 45-38 advantage in ground balls. 
 
Messina finished the game with three goals. Senior Mike Giordano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) started the first half and turned aside three shots on goal. Senior Nick Foote (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Kyle Siegel (Montauk, N.Y.) played the third and fourth quarters to preserve the win. Foote made six stops and Siegel had one save in the fourth. 
 
Eric Whettell took the loss for the Yellow Jackets and made nine saves in goal. Max Castleman played the second half and made seven saves. 
 
C.W. Post returns to action on March 5 on the road against Seton Hill.
