Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Dowling, 67-60

OAKDALE, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2011) – Senior guard
Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) tallied a team-high 15 points but it was not enough as Dowling College held on to defeat the Pioneers, 67-60, in an East Coast Conference women's basketball contest Wednesday evening at Golden Lion gymnasium.
Dowling improves to 12-11 and 10-6 in conference play after sweeping the season series from the Pioneers. C.W. Post falls to 10-11 overall and 8-8 in conference action.
Dowling scratched out a 10-1 lead to open the game and never looked back. The Golden Lions completed the game shooting 19-for-50 (.380) from field goal range and converted 27-of-31 at the charity stripe.
C.W. Post was 23-for-72 from the field and 12-for-25 from the free throw line. The Pioneers won on the boards after outrebounding the Golden Lions, 51-39.
Connie Simmons led the game in scoring with 22 points and was a perfect 15-for-15 at the line for the Golden Lions. Seja Gamble added 20 points and was 8-for-10 at the line.
Aiken also led the Pioneers in rebounding with eight boards. Sophomore forward
Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 points, six rebounds, one block and two steals.
C.W. Post looks to turn things around when it hosts next-door neighbor, NYIT, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
