No. 20 Women's Soccer Predicted to Repeat as ECC Champions

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Aug. 31, 2011)  - The 20th-ranked women's soccer team has been picked to repeat as East Coast Conference champions in the 2011 season, as voted upon by the league's coaches. In addition, senior goalkeeper Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) was voted the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
    
Despite only two first place votes, the Pioneers finished with a total of 56 points to earn the top spot in the poll. C.W. Post claimed both the Regular Season and Championship titles last season and earned a bid to the NCAA Regional Final before falling to top ranked St. Rose.  They finished the season with a 14-2-4 overall mark and a 6-0-1 record in conference play.

Bridgeport claims the second spot with four first place votes for 55 points.  The Purple Knights also earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament last season and finished 2010 with a 14-4-2 overall mark.  Queens rounds out the top three with 42 points after a 11-7-2 record last season.

A two-time ECC Goalkeeper of the Year, Weiser put together a 13-2-4 record in net for the Pioneers in 2010. She amassed 89 saves and a .899 save percentage to go along with 9 shutouts last season.

Katie Stanley takes home the ECC preseason Offensive Player of the Year honor after being an All-Conference and All-Region selection a year ago.  In 2010 she finished with 21 points on eight goals, including two game winners, and five assists.
