No. 4 Shippensburg Upends Field Hockey, 6-1

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 16, 2011) –
The fourth-ranked Shippensburg University Raiders took a 3-1 lead in the first half and held on to defeat C.W. Post, 6-1, in a non-conference field hockey matchup Friday afternoon.
 
Shippensburg improves to 4-2 overall while handing C.W. Post its first loss of the season at 3-1.
 
Ashley Taylor recorded a hat trick in the second half to lead the Raiders in scoring.
 
Shippensburg scored first on an unassisted goal from Bre White just over a minute into the game.  The Pioneers evened the score with a goal from sophomore forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) on an assist from senior forward Kathryn Godshalk (Hilton, N.Y.) in the 23rd minute.
 
The Raiders regained the lead five minutes later when Katie Pufnock scored on a feed from Taylor James.
 
Shippensburg outshot the Pioneers, 22-5, in the game and held a 17-4 advantage on penalty corners.
 
Senior Devon Trenkle (New City, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Kerianne Rojas (Townsend, Del.) combined to make eight saves in the game. 
 
C.W. Post will stay in Pennsylvania this weekend and will play against Mansfield University at Lock Haven's campus at 12 p.m.
