Men's Soccer Moves Up to No. 10 in NSCAA Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 20, 2011)- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its weekly poll, ranking C.W. Post men's soccer at number 10, up five spots from last week.
The jump follows a 2-0 week for the Pioneers, as they
posted two wins on the week, both over NE-10 opponents - a 2-1 victory at Bentley and a 3-1 home defeat of Stonehill. The Pioneers fell behind early at Bentley, but scored two goals in the last 15 minutes of play – one by William Lindberg (Gothenburg, Sweden) and the game winner by Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.), to earn the 2-1 victory over the Falcons. Three days later, C.W. Post found itself down early yet again, as Stonehill took an early lead over the Pioneers. But Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) scored the tying goal before halftime on a penalty kick, then scored again on PK midway through the second half. Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) tacked on an insurance goal and gave the Pioneers a 3-1 win.
C.W. Post hosts Philadelphia on Tuesday at 3 p.m., before traveling to Connecticut to take on Bridgeport this Saturday at 3 p.m. in the ECC opener for the Pioneers.
