Austboe's Hat Trick Leads No. 10 Men's Soccer Past Philadelphia, 4-1
Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2011) – Freshman forward
Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) had a hand in all four goals, scoring three and assisting on the other as C.W. Post men's soccer ran its winning streak to seven games, defeating Philadelphia University 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pioneers improve to 7-0 while Philadelphia slips to 2-4.
The teams played a scoreless first half as the Pioneers outshot the Rams 8-4 but could not capitalize on any chances.
A foul in the box in the 52nd minute awarded the Rams a penalty kick and Ryan Purnell's shot into the lower left corner was just out of the reach of a diving
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark).
But the Pioneers responded accordingly, and it took them just under four minutes to score the equalizer, as midfielder
Jonathon Watkin (Doncaster, England) made a run up the right wing and sent a cross to Austboe in the middle of the field. Austboe turned and placed a hard shot into the lower left corner, knotting the game at one apiece.
Three minutes later, Austboe fed a through ball that beat the Philly U. defense up top to
Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.). Turan was one-on-one with the Rams goalkeeper and beat him with a 10-yard shot into the lower left corner.
Austboe struck again at 61:54 as he took a long pass from
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway), controlled the ball at the top of the box and unleashed an 18-yard shot into the lower left corner for a 3-1 advantage.
The freshman would cap the scoring with his ninth goal of the season as Turan sent a quick pass from the right that Austboe one-touched into the left side of the net for a 4-1 lead.
C.W. Post held a 22-13 shot advantage on the afternoon, while Philadelphia owned a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Jorgensen made four saves in improving to 7-0 on the season, while Alex Heston made six stops for the Rams.
C.W. Post heads to Connecticut on Saturday to face off against Bridgeport at 3 p.m. in the conference opener for the Pioneers.
