Mack Attacks With 3 TD's To Lead Football Past Shippensburg, 40-22

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2011) – The C.W. Post football team amassed 551 yards of offense, including 366 on the ground, en route to a 40-22 win over Shippensburg University in a PSAC East contest played Saturday afternoon in front of 3,217 in attendance on Hickox Field.
The win is the first of the season for the Pioneers as they improve to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The loss ends a two-game win streak for the Raiders as they drop to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC East.
Sophomore running back
Jeff Mack (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick with three rushing touchdowns in the game for 111 total yards. Mack averaged 9.6 yards a carry.
Redshirt freshman quarterback
Steven Laurino (Boise, Idaho) completed 13 of 23 pass attempts with no interceptions for 185 yards. Junior wide receiver
Sean Persch (Gap, Pa.) caught four passes for 93 yards. Persch also returned a punt return for 73 yards in the fourth quarter to score the Pioneers' fourth touchdown of the day.
The Pioneers took the first lead of the game with 11:04 to play in the first when freshman
Marc Montana (East Amherst, N.Y.) drilled a 27-yard field goal through the uprights.
C.W. Post added to its lead at the start of the second when Mack rushed in for a 9-yard score.
Shippensburg began to claw back in the second and took the lead with two touchdowns, beginning with a 44-yard completion from Zack Zulli to Jacob Baskerville at 9:33 followed by another Zulli completion to Mike Frenette at 4:22.
The Raiders led 14-10 at the half and had totaled 237 yards on 33 plays. The Pioneers amassed 199 yards on 43 plays.
The Pioneers regained the lead in the third when Mack rushed in for a 1-yard touchdown at 11:19. Montana kicked his second field goal of the game with a 20-yard kick at 2:29.
The Raiders threatened the game again as they stole the lead back with a 4-yard touchdown reception from Taimur Harris at the start of the quarter.
C.W. Post went back on top in the game when Mack scored his final TD with a 28-yard run at 8:20.
Persch's 73-yard punt return with 7:05 to play helped put the game out of reach even before sophomore running back
Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) ran in a 31-yard TD with 1:59 remaining on the game clock.
Senior inside linebacker
Ronnie Modik (Levittown, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 14 tackles while senior defensive lineman
Kadeem Huggins (Corona, N.Y.) and sophomore linebacker
Rob Bright (East Meadow, N.Y.) each made two sacks totaling 25 yards. In all, the Pioneer defense made seven sacks for loss of 45 yards.
Zulli finished the game completing 23 of 43 pass attempts for 295 yards and three touchdowns. Baskerville led the receiving corps with 117 yards and one TD. Frenette led with 82 rushing yards.
On defense, Vinnie Ranauto recorded a game-high 16 tackles.
C.W. Post returns to action when it hosts West Chester next Saturday at 1 p.m.
