Men's Soccer Takes Down Holy Family in Double Overtime, 3-2

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – C.W. Post sophomore forward Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored in the 106th minute to lift the Pioneers to a 3-2, double-overtime victory over Holy Family on Saturday afternoon. 
C.W. Post improves to 2-0 on the season while HFU evens at 1-1.

The teams played a scoreless first half, but the Tigers broke the 0-0 deadlock with a Jeffrey Wimsey score at 48:44. Wimsey took a cross from Justin Massaro on the right side of the box and placed a shot into the left side for a 1-0 lead.

But a resilient C.W. Post squad answered with a corner kick in the 61st minute, and William Lindberg (Gothenburg, Sweden) put the loose ball into the top left corner from eight yards out.

The Pioneers took the lead at 69:58 as Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) sent a cross to Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway), who one-timed a shot into the left side of the net. 

With time winding down, Holy Family withstood a second half flurry of shots from the Pioneers (16-6 differential) and tied the game with just under a minute and a half to play, as Ahmed Elgayar assisted Seydou Ba with a long throw in from the far side, headed into the lower right corner by Ba. 

A scoreless first overtime saw limited scoring chances for both sides, with CWP taking two and Holy Family with one shot.

C.W. Post upped the pressure in the second OT stanza, taking four shots to the Tigers' one, setting the stage for Turan's OT game winner, coming unassisted as the sophomore dribbled through the defense and threaded a shot into the right side of the goal .

For the game, CWP overwhelmed the Tigers with a 29-10 shot advantage. The Pioneers took 15 corners to Holy Family's six, forcing Tiger goalkeeper Mark Feretti to make nine saves on the afternoon.

The Pioneers' Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) made one stop between the pipes as he improved to 2-0 on the season.
C.W. Post plays its home opener on Wednesday at 4 p.m., as the Pioneers take on Concordia in a non-league matchup.
