No. 6 Field Hockey Cruises Past Slippery Rock, 5-0
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2011) – Sophomore midfielder
Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) registered five points on two goals and an assist to lead No. 6 C.W. Post to a 5-0 victory over Slippery Rock in an early afternoon non-conference field hockey contest on Hickox Field.
C.W. Post improves to 6-3 overall while Slippery Rock drops to 3-8.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead with just under two minutes to play in the first half when senior forward
Kathryn Godshalk (Hilton N.Y.) scored on a slide pass from Dragon into the lower left corner.
The Pioneers went up 2-0 when Dragon scored her first goal on a 10-yard shot into the lower right corner on a long pass from senior defender
Helene Bruckner (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) in the 46
th minute.
C.W. Post continued shooting on the Rock's end and tallied three goals in a span of just over two minutes.
The first of those three goals was drilled in from the right post from Bruckner at 54:01 with senior midfielder
Amanda Miller (Newton, N.J.) assisting on the play.
Dragon added her second goal when she tapped the ball in from out front on a long pass from Bruckner inside the circle at 55:09.
The Pioneers scored again less than a minute later when junior midfielder
Ashley Oracewski (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tipped the ball in on a middle pass from freshman forward
Paige Albano (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) at 56:16.
Senior goalkeeper
Devon Trenkle (New City, N.Y.) recorded two saves in goal to preserve her second career shutout and first of the season.
In all, the Pioneers outshot the Rock, 20-3, and held a 13-4 advantage in penalty corners.
