Heuer Leads Football To 20-15 Win Over Millersville; LIU Post Breaks Ground On New Stadium On Homecoming

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2012) – Sophomore quarterback Tyler Heuer (Oceanside, N.Y.) passed for 113 yards and rushed for another 137 to lead LIU Post to a 20-15 win over Millersville University in a PSAC East football contest on Homecoming Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.

The win ends a four-game losing streak for the Pioneers as they improve to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in conference action.  Millersville falls to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC East.

In all, LIU Post scored all of their points in the first half on three touchdowns and was able to hold off the Marauders, who threatened with a touchdown and field goal in the second half. 

The Pioneers scored their first touchdown with 53 seconds to play in the first quarter when sophomore wide receiver Kamron Palmer (Brooklyn, N.Y.) caught an 82 yard pass from Heuer. 

The Pioneers tacked onto their lead in the second quarter with a pair of 2-yard runs from senior Thomas Beverly (Wyandanch, N.Y.) and junior Rob Bright (East Meadow, N.Y.).

The Marauders got on the board when Ian Sadon rushed on the first play of the drive for a 75-yard touchdown run at 11:47 in the second.
At the half, the Pioneers led, 20-6.

Millersville added a score in the third with a 22-yard field goal from Garrett Mayhart.  The Marauders scored their second touchdown on a 4-yard carry from Myron Myles with 3:57 to play but could not execute on the 2-point conversion.

The Pioneers were able to run the clock out on their final possession to secure the win.

LIU Post amassed 375 offensive yards that included 262 rushing.  Heuer completed 11 of 20 pass attempts in his second career start for the Pioneers. 

On the defensive side of the ball, senior linebacker Anton Rukaj (Greenburgh, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 10 tackles.  Sophomore Joseph Thompson (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) carried out two sacks for loss of 13 yards.  Junior Tommy Williams (Westbury, N.Y.) and senior D.J. Young (Highland Mills, N.Y.) each had an interception for 22 and 21 yards, respectively.

Millersville quarterback Connor Casey completed 13 of 26 passes for 106 yards.  Sadon rushed for a game-high 138 yards and one touchdown.

At the conclusion of the game, LIU Post Provost Paul Forestell and Bryan Collins along with members of the football, field hockey and men's and women's lacrosse teams as well as members of the LIU Post community participated in a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony in anticipation of rebuilding a new stadium that is set to open Fall 2013.
