No. 3 Men's Soccer Tops Post, 3-1
Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (October 24, 2012) – A balanced offensive effort led the way for the No. 2 LIU Post men's soccer team, as it defeated Post University by a 3-1 final score on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action.
The Pioneers improve to 15-1 on the season, while Post University goes to 11-3-3.
The Eagles scored first, as Gustavo Ferreira took a corner kick in the 20th minute and placed the ball right off the front post, positioned perfectly for Jean Louis Cadet to deflect it in.
But the Pioneers responded six minutes later as
Johan Wallin (Sollentuna, Sweden) took a corner that rebounded back to him. He served it in again, and this time found junior back
Leron Haywood (Rosedale, N.Y.), who headed it in for the equalizer.
The Pioneers took the lead just before halftime, as
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) played a long ball from the right side into the box to find
Oscar Kjellstrom (Stenungsund, Sweden), who slotted a header into the middle of the net for a 2-1 Pioneer lead.
LIU Post capped the scoring with a goal in the 74th minute by graduate
Kieran Mercer (Brighton, England).
Junior goalkeeper
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) made four saves for the Pioneers, who outshot the Eagles 14-7 and had an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Errol Reid made five stops for Post University .
LIU Post will close out the regular season with a game at Molloy on Saturday, starting at 2:30 p.m.
