Five Men's Soccer Players Tabbed For Daktronics All-Region Teams

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (November 19, 2012) – Five LIU Post men's soccer players were named to the Daktronics All-Region teams, it was announced on Monday. Juniors
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark),
Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) were named to the First Team, while juniors
Leron Haywood (Rosedale, N.Y.) and
Jonathon Watkin (Doncaster, England) received Second Team honors. The Daktronics All-America and All-Region teams are selected by athletics communications professionals at NCAA Division II institutions.
Jorgensen was named the ECC Goalkeeper of the Year as well as a First Team All-Conference selection as he posted a 17-2 record in goal, along with a 0.99 goals against average, an .806 save percentage, and four shutouts.
Bjoernoe led the Pioneers with 12 assists, ranking top ten in the NCAA in total assists and assists per game and finishing first in the conference as well. He also scored four goals to total 20 points, good for second on the team, all while captaining a defense that ranked first in the conference in goals allowed.
Turan, a repeat selection at ECC Player of the Year, once again was an offensive force to be reckoned with, totaling 24 points behind 15 goals and four assists. His five game-winners led the way for the Pioneers as he makes his second straight appearance as an All-Region selection.
Haywood earned All-Conference honors after anchoring the defense, while Watkin, who totaled 15 points (six goals, three assists), was a vital component of the center midfield for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers, who set a new school record with an 18-2 record, won the 2012 East Coast Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA second round for the second straight year.
