Five Men's Soccer Players Earn NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Region Mention

 – Five LIU Post men's soccer players were named to the 2012 NSCAA/Continental Tire Women's NCAA Division II East All-Region teams, it was announced recently.  Juniors Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) and Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.) were both named to the NSCAA All-East Region First Team for the second straight season, while juniors Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Jonathan Watkin (Doncaster, England) earned Second Team accolades, and senior Andreas Olson (Oppeid, Norway) was named to the Third Team.

Bjoernoe led the Pioneers with 12 assists, ranking top ten in the NCAA in total assists and assists per game and finishing first in the conference as well.  He also scored four goals to total 20 points, good for second on the team, all while captaining a defense that ranked first in the conference in goals allowed.

Turan, a repeat selection at ECC Player of the Year, once again was an offensive force to be reckoned with, totaling 24 points behind 15 goals and four assists.  His five game-winners led the way for the Pioneers as he makes his second straight appearance as an All-Region selection.

Jorgensen was named the ECC Goalkeeper of the Year as well as a First Team All-Conference selection as he posted a 17-2 record in goal, along with a 0.99 goals against average, an .806 save percentage, and four shutouts.

Watkin, who totaled 15 points (six goals, three assists), was a vital component of the center midfield for the Pioneers, and Olson, who earned his second straight NSCAA All-Region selection, totaled 18 points on five goals and eight assists. 

The Pioneers, who set a new school record with an 18-2 record, won the 2012 East Coast Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA second round for the second straight year.
