Football Unveils Signings For 2012 Season; Bryan Collins Will Appear Tonight On MSG Varsity at 8:30 p.m.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2012) – C.W. Post head football coach Bryan Collins announced the signings of 17 student-athletes, who will suit up for the Pioneers for the 2012 season.  
  
“We have addressed specific needs as well as increased our overall height and athleticism in most areas,” says Collins.  “The true test of this class is can they successfully adjust to the rigors of collegiate academics and compete successfully in the PSAC.  I have great confidence that they will.”

Collins will speak about the new signings tonight on MSG Varsity at 8:30 p.m.

Jesse Gwin (C, 6-5, 250; Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac)
Gwin was a two-year player at Stepinac, where he helped lead the Crusaders to a combined 21-3 overall record.  Stepinac captured the CHSFL AA Championship title in 2010.  Gwin was named CHSFL All-League and Second Team All-City.

Collins on Gwin: “Jesse gives us excellent size and athleticism at the center position.  He has successfully competed in the CHSFL against excellent competitors.”
 
Keith Mittenzwei – (OL, 6-, 290; Staten Island, N.Y./Msg. Farrell)
Mittenzwei was a two-year player at Msgr. Farrell.  He was named CHSFL All-League and was selected to the All-City First Team.  He was also named a NYC Top 100 Player. 

Collins on Mittenzwei: Keith is an extremely physical player.  He increases our size on the OL, which is needed in the PSAC.  He competed for a great program at Farrell.  We have had great players come from Farrell.

Julian Santiago – (LB, 5-11, 215; Selden, N.Y./Newfield)
Santiago played four years at Newfield.  He was named the MVP of the Long Island Championship against Garden City in 2011.  He was a Second Team All-Long Island selection.  He totaled 125 tackles and rushed for 700 yards and seven touchdowns during his final season.

Collins on Santiago: “Julian is an amazing athlete and a heady player.  He has the ability to run through the gap and bend to the ball.  Julian played his best ball during Newfield's championship run.”
 
Sean Binckes – (TE, 6-4, 220; Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian)
 
Binckes played for Xaverian.  He was named CHSFL All-League, All-Brooklyn, First Team All-City.  He is an NYC Top 100 Player.
 
Collins on Binckes: “Sean is the most athletic tight end in New York.  He has the athleticism to stretch the field from an inside position.”
 
James Rupp – (DB, 6-0, 185; Sayville, N.Y./Sayville)
 
Rupp played at Sayville, where he helped the Flashes capture two Suffolk and Long Island Championships in 2010 and 2011.  He was named all-county and Second Team All-Long Island. 
 
Collins on Rupp: “James is a proven winner.  He competes until the end of the whistle.  He loves competition and plays with tremendous passion.  He is the most driven player I saw throughout the championship run.”
 
Thomas Hannan – (WR, 5-8, 178; Bohemia, N.Y./Sayville)
 
Hannan played at Sayville along with teammate Rupp and helped lead the Flashes to two Long Island Championships in 2010 and 2011 and a combined 22-2 record.  His career stats include 81 receptions for 1,511 yards and 18 touchdowns along with eight interceptions.  Last season, he caught 47 passes for 956 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was named all-county, First Team All-Long Island and Third Team All-State.
 
Collins on Hannan: “Thomas does all the little things well.  He is an extremely heady player who knows how to get open.  He will work the middle of the field and keep drives alive.”
 
Ken Scotland – (DE, 6-4, 210; Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue)
 
Scotland played three years of varsity at Comsewogue, where he played both as a tight end and a defensive end.  He caught eight passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns last season for the Warriors.  On the defensive side, he made 25 tackles, including 10 for loss, and made seven sacks.  He was named all-county and First Team All-Division.
 
Collins on Scotland: “Kenny has tremendous potential.  He possesses great athleticism for someone his size.  I believe he will grow into an All-PSAC defensive end.  His best ball is still ahead of him.”
 
Mike Sollenne – (OL, 6-6, 275; Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa)
 
Sollenne was a two-year varsity player at Massapequa Park.  He led the Chiefs to a 7-3 record and a playoff bid in 2011.  He was named all-county as well as academic all-conference.  Sollenne was also selected to the National Football Foundation's Golden 11.
 
Collins on Sollenne: “Mike gives us the size we are looking for while maintaining his athleticism.  We look forward to Mike playing many games up front for us.”
 
Anthony Turano – (DL, 6-2, 260; Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa)
 
Turano was a four-year varsity player at Massapequa.  He helped lead the Chiefs to a 7-3 record last season.  Massapequa claimed the Big 4 championship title in 2008.  He was named all-county, Second Team All-Long Island, Fifth Team All-State, and was a Nassau County Scholar-Athlete.
 
Collins on Turano: “Anthony is a tough, hard-nosed defensive tackle, which is a must in the PSAC.  He plays with great determination.  Anthony fills a void with three seniors graduating at the DT position.”
 
Dylan Cafarella – (LB, 6-1, 240; Albertson, N.Y./St. Anthony's)
 
Cafarella played two years of varsity football at St. Anthony's and helped lead the Friars to back-to-back undefeated seasons with a 22-0 overall record along with two CHSFL titles.  During his senior year, he recorded 95 tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery.  He was named CHSFL All-Conference in 2011.
 
Collins on Cafarella: “Dylan played in the middle for the top program on Long Island and in the Catholic League.  He is a physical, intelligent player who fills a need with the graduation of our two inside linebackers.”
 
Tim Sternfeld – (K/P, 5-10, 150; Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo)
 
Sternfeld played two years at Ramapo.  He was 9-for-13 on field goal attempts last season, including 3-for-3 on 40+ yard attempts.  He set a school record for successfully kicking two 45 yarders.  His nine field goals tied a school season record and were the most in New Jersey in 2011.  He averaged 40 yards on punts and recorded nine inside the 20 yard line.
 
Collins on Sternfeld: “We look for Tim to come in and handle our kicking and punting duties immediately.  He is the top high school kicker that we had on our board.”
 
Shane Hubbard – (WR, 6-0, 175; Jamaica, N.Y./John Adams)
 
Hubbard was the city's leading receiver in 2011 while playing at John Adams.  He was regarded as an NYC Top 100 Player.  He was named Second Team All-City.
 
Collins on Hubbard: “Shane is going to be a standout receiver here at Post.  He has the ability to make the tough catch as well as score anywhere on the field.”
 
Keyon Barnwell – (DL, 6-4, 245; Brooklyn, N.Y./Lincoln)
 
Barnwell was an NYC Top 100 Player at Lincoln.  He was named to the City Championship Team and also earned all-City and all-Borough honors.
 
Collins on Barnwell: “Keyon comes from a great program at Lincoln – the city champs.  He has tremendous potential and is versatile.  He will grow into a PSAC defensive lineman.”
 
Dylin Lewis – (DB, 6-0, 175; Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep.)
 
Lewis was a two-year starter at Poly Prep.  He led the team in receptions, including five touchdown passes. 
 
Collins on Lewis: “Dylin is another player coming from an outstanding program.  He is a game breaker on either side of the ball.  We look at him as a shutdown corner.”
 
Matt Brennan – (QB, 6-4, 210; Sayville, N.Y./Calhoun)
 
Brennan played at Calhoun.  He threw for 663 yards and was named Division 2 All-Conference.
 
Collins on Brennan: “Matt shows great potential.  Has is a student of the game.  He can make all the throws.  He has an outstanding arm and excellent athleticism for a QB of his size.  His best ball is still to come.”
 
Michael Richardson – (WR, 5-9, 170; West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon)
 
Richardson played at West Babylon.  He was named All-Long Island and All-State. 
 
Collins on Richardson: “Michael is a game breaker.  He was the top receiver on Long Island.  He has great hands and makes the tough catches look easy.  Michael will be a force in our offense.  He is also a top defensive back who could see time on both sides of the ball.”
 
Kareem Folkes – (RB, 5-9, 170; Brooklyn, N.Y./Lincoln)
 
Folkes played at Lincoln and was named the NYC Player of the Year.  He received First Team All-City and was also named an NYC Top 100 Player.
 
Collins on Folkes: “Kareem was the Player of the Year and was a huge part of Lincoln's city championship.  He has all the tools – speed, cutting ability, toughness and hands.  Kareem can change a game in many ways.”
