Men's Soccer Signs Two Players for 2012
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 29, 2012) – C.W. Post head men's soccer coach
Andreas Lindberg announced that two Long Island products have committed to play for the Pioneers.
Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) and
Demetri Partsinevelos (Westbury, N.Y.) will continue their soccer careers in green and gold beginning in the fall of 2012.
“Two excellent young men have joined our program with the signings of Matias and Demetri”, says Lindberg. “Matias is probably one of the top recruits I've ever signed, while Demetri is a sound technical player with a great left foot who has the potential for a very productive career. We are very, very excited.”
Ruiz was recruited by several Division I schools before signing his letter of intent to play for the Pioneers. Perhaps the best player to ever suit up for the Southampton High School, soccer team, he scored a school record 66 career goals, which not only made him the Mariners' all-time leading scorer, but also gave him the distinction of being in the top 10 in career goals in Suffolk County history—only eight players in the county's history have scored more goals than he. Ruiz scored in 14 of his team's 16 games this season, leading the Mariners to the program's first ever undefeated league title and an overall record of 15-1-1. He was named a Newsday All-Long Island player, First-Team All-State, All-County and League VII Player of the Year in his final season in a Mariners uniform. Ruiz also plays for Met Oval, the U.S. Soccer Federation Developmental Academy team in Brooklyn. He will join several former Met Oval players on the Pioneer roster, including
Leron Haywood, Victor Muntean, Arlind Nika and
Daniel Begonja.
Partsinevelos played for Hicksville High School, helping the Comets to a 2011 Nassau County Championship, Long Island Championship, and Class AA State Championship. The midfielder earned all-conference as a junior and proved his equal strength in the classroom by maintaining a spot on the Scholar-Athlete list throughout his high school career. He has been a member of the Hicksville Xtreme since age 6, and currently captains the team. The Xtreme are three-time State Cup finalists and N.E. Region Champions. In addition, Partsinevelos has been a part of the Long Island Junior Soccer League Olympic Development Program (ODP) since 2008.
Ruiz and Partsinevelos will join an already strong Pioneer squad that spend most of 2011 ranked in the top 10 in the nation, finishing 17-3-1 and advancing to the East Coast Conference Championship and the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
C.W. Post will kick off 2012 in Bridgeport, Conn., opening the season against Bloomfield on August 30.
