Laurino Brothers Power Football To 45-10 PSAC East Win At Cheyney

CHEYNEY, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2012) – The LIU Post Pioneers opened conference play with a 45-10 win over Cheyney University Saturday afternoon at O'Sheilds-Stevenson Stadium.
The Pioneers improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC East while Cheyney slips to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the division.
The Pioneers took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter when sophomore quarterback
Steven Laurino (Boise, Idaho) completed a 17-yard pass to his brother, senior
Grayson Laurino (Boise, Idaho), which was followed by a 2-point conversion pass from Grayson to senior wide receiver
Ryan Derham (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) at 8:23.
The Wolves scored once in the quarter with a 34-yard field goal from Jewel Jones.
The Pioneers added on to their lead with a pair of touchdowns from
Steven Laurino (2-yard run) and senior running back
Thomas Beverly (Wyandanch, N.Y.) (3-yard rush) to lead 22-3 at the half.
In the third quarter, junior running back
Jeff Mack (Bronx, N.Y.) rushed in another touchdown for the Pioneers with a 5-yard sprint into the endzone. Freshman
Tim Sternfeld (Wyckoff, N.J.) kicked his first collegiate field goal on a 33-yard attempt with 2:09 to play in the quarter.
Cheyney's Blaze Wasserleben broke through for a 70-yard touchdown on the second play of the Wolves' drive to cut the score to 32-10 with 1:13 left in the third.
The fourth quarter belonged to LIU Post as it tacked on two more touchdowns, beginning with a five-yard pass from Laurino to Derham at 13:07 and followed later by a 14-yard run from sophomore quarterback

Steven Laurino finished the game completing 27 of 35 pass attempts with no interceptions for 259 yards and two touchdowns. Grayson caught 7 of those passes to lead the receiving corps with 77 yards and a touchdown. Mack led on the ground with 88 net yards and a touchdown.
On defense, senior
Antonio Powell-Fields (Hempstead, N.Y.) and sophomore
David Sumter (Hollis, N.Y.) each made seven tackles while sophomore
Joseph Thompson (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) made a sack for the second straight game.
Wasserleben completed 5 of 14 passes with two interceptions for 20 yards and led the offense with 163 rushing yards and a touchdown. Isaiah Fleming made a game-high 13 tackles on defense.
LIU Post returns home to host Bloomsburg University on Saturday at 1p.m.
