Fourth Quarter Rally Lifts No. 11 Bloomsburg To 42-27 Win Over Football

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2012) – The LIU Post football came ever so close to defeating No.11-ranked Bloomsburg University but could not hang on to a 27-21 lead  in the fourth quarter.  Instead, the Huskies rallied to score three touchdowns in the final quarter to win the game, 42-27, in a PSAC East football clash Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.
 
Bloomsburg improves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC East.  LIU Post's record falls to 2-1 overall 1-1 in conference play.
 
The Huskies scored first when wide receiver Kyle Fisher caught a 3-yard pass from quarterback Tim Kelly with 5:58 to play in the first quarter.
 
The Pioneers matched the score at the end of the quarter when Laurino used a quarterback sneak from the BU 2 and found the endzone.
 
In the second quarter, the Huskies scored two unanswered touchdowns, beginning with a 2-yard run from Ryan Dickerson, who had picked up a fumble caused by Pioneer defender Antonio Powell-Fields (Hempstead, N.Y.) and rushed in for the score at 9:08.
 
Bloomsburg added to its lead when Kelly completed a 73-yard pass to Kyle Fisher with 5:26 to play.
 
LIU Post was able to cut the lead down by a score with 1:48 left to play in the half when senior wide receiver Ryan Derham (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) hauled in a 46-yard completed pass from Laurino.
 
The Pioneers continued their momentum from the first half and into the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns, as junior running back Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) rushed in a 5-yard touchdown with 3:25 on the clock.  He also caught a 21-yard pass from Laurino with three ticks left on the clock to give LIU Post a 27-21 lead.
 
The fourth quarter proved to be the worst for the Pioneers as they failed to move the ball out of their own territory on four straight possessions before punting the ball away.
 
Bloomsburg, on the other hand, made quick work and scored in back-to-back drives on two plays each with each series lasting less than a minute to take a 35-27 lead with 8:27 left to play.
 
The Huskies sealed the game up with their third touchdown of the quarter when Kelly kept the ball and plunged into the endzone from the 1-yard line to with 1:13 left in regulation.
 
Bloomsburg amassed 529 offensive yards on 66 plays, including 279 yards of rushing.  Eddie Mateo carried the ball 17 times for 118 yards and a touchdown.  Meanwhile, Franklin Quiteh rushed 18 times for 111 yards.   Kelly completed 10 of 18 pass attempts for 240 yards and three touchdowns.  Tony David totaled nine tackles and two sacks for the defense.  Fisher caught six passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns.
 
Laurino finished the game completing 14 of 29 pass attempts for 141 yards and two touchdowns.  Junior Jeff Mack (Bronx, N.Y.) caught a team-high five passes for 32 yards.  Brunetti carried the ball 11 times for 73 yards and rushed for a touchdown along with a 21-yard touchdown reception.
 
The Pioneer defense held the Huskies to under 300 rushing yards for the first time in three games played this season.  Powell-Fields led with 10 tackles and a forced fumble.
