Football Drops Fourth Straight at AIC, 21-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Oct. 12, 2013) - On Saturday, the LIU Post football team yielded three rushing touchdowns in a 21-0 loss versus American International in a Northeast-10 Conference clash at Ronald J. Abdow Field in Springfield, Mass. With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 2-4 overall, and 1-4 in NE-10 action.
In the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets (4-2, 4-1 NE-10) capitalized on an interception by red-shirt junior quarterback Steven Laurino (Boise, Idaho) and turned it into a seven-point score. Two plays after the pick, junior wide receiver Maurice Easterling (Yonkers, N.Y.) took a 24-yard handoff for the TD.
LIU Post looked to answer on the ensuing drive. Though a Jeff Mack (Bronx, N.Y.) 42-yard carry put the visitors inside the opposition's 10-yard line, the green and gold had to settle for a field goal. However, senior kicker Karsten Viste (Randaberg, Norway) missed the attempt, keeping it a 7-0 game.
The Pioneers had only one other red zone opportunity in the contest, which occurred in the third quarter. Trailing by three possessions at that time, red-shirt freshman running back Mike Williams (Westbury, N.Y.) was stuffed on a third- and fourth-and-goal run from the two- and one-yard line, respectively.
Junior quarterback Kevin Arduino (Cornwall, N.Y.) accounted for the other two touchdowns for AIC. He ran a four- and nine-yard keeper for the scores.
Laurino finished the contest 20-of-37 for 245 yards passing. On the ground, Mack carried the ball 15 times for a game-high 83 yards. Williams registered four catches for 79 yards, which led all players. Defensively, senior linebacker Rob Bright (East Meadow, N.Y.) accrued a game-best 17 tackles.
Head Coach Bryan Collins and his LIU Post squad are back to the field next Saturday (Oct. 19), when they welcome in Pace, as part of the annual Homecoming festivities, to Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
