BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2013) - A three-point record-setting day by senior forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) led the fifth-ranked LIU Post field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Northeast-10 opponent Saint Michael's Sunday afternoon in Brookville, N.Y.

The Pioneers' (14-0, 8-0 NE-10) 14th win of the season was a milestone win for Head Coach Raenee Savin, as it was the 100th of her career.

The first half of play was relatively quiet as neither team was able to find the back of the net for a score. LIU Post totaled 14 shots in the first, while Saint Michael's (6-8, 3-3 NE-10) could not even get off a single shot.  The Pioneers also registered nine penalty corners to the Purple Knights' one.

Just five minutes into the second half, senior forward Stephanie Ruhle (Wanaque, N.J.) kicked off the scoring. After a scramble in the box, Dragon came up with the ball and passed it to Ruhle at the left flank who tapped it in for the score.

Nearly nine minutes later, the Pioneers took a penalty corner. Freshman midfielder Lauren Adamusik (Clark, N.J.) received the initial pass off the corner, and found Dragon to her left at the top of the circle. Dragon drilled the ball past the Purple Knight defense and goalie to tally three points on the game. With those three points, Dragon now has 55 points on the season, passing Amber Limanni, who previously held the Pioneer single-season points record with 54.

The Purple Knights answered back in the 53rd minute, when Kelly Celata put home a pass from Cassaundra Davis to cut the lead to one. The visitors threatened in the final seconds, as they were awarded a penalty corner with just a few ticks left on the clock. The Pioneer defense prevailed though, without allowing Saint Michael's to settle into a shot.

Freshman Meredith Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) picked up her seventh win between the pipes, making two saves in the effort. Her counterpart, Sarah Healey, totaled nine saves in the loss.

On the afternoon, the Pioneers held a 20-3 advantage in shots and a 15-4 clip in penalty corners.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday (Oct. 22), as they host Mercy for a 4 p.m. match-up at Hickox Field.
