Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2013) - Junior forward Morgan Kitton (Bellmore, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) notched a goal apiece Wednesday, as the LIU Post women's soccer team blanked Molloy, 2-0, at Robert Blitz Field in Brookville, N.Y.
Both squads had opportunities in the first six minutes, but neither the Pioneers (13-3, 6-2 ECC) or Lions (3-13, 3-5 ECC) had anything to show for it. Senior forward Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) missed on a pair of attempts for the hosts, while the visitors' Allison Sloper (Williston Park, N.Y.) nicked the left post with her shot.
From there, LIU Post would outshoot Molloy by a 13-1 count for the remainder of the half, and cashed in on two goals in the process. In the 17th minute, Vistnes settled a Jeanine Ambrogi (Greenlawn, N.Y.) cross-pass inside the 18-yard box, and fired it into the mesh from point-blank range to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.
Kitton accounted for the other tally, which was her first of 2013, at the 43:47 mark. On a counter attack, junior back Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) made a run across midfield, and gave the ball off to sophomore midfielder Hanna Westerling (Alvadalen, Sweden), who streaked up the sideline. Westerling subsequently sent a cross into the box that Kitton one-timed into the top shelf, making it 2-0.
In the latter stanza, the Pioneers continued to dominate. Though they didn't score, the green and gold recorded 18 shots to the opposition's three in the 45-minute session.
For the match, LIU Post owned a commanding 32-5 shot advantage. Niciforo had a game-high 13 of them. The Pioneers also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Mark Dawson and his squad are back in action Saturday (Nov. 2) in a must-win regular-season finale at East Coast Conference rival Queens. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
