Dragon's Four Goals Propel No. 5 Field Hockey Past SCSU, 5-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 9, 2013) - A four-goal showing by senior forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) secured the fifth-ranked LIU Post field hockey team's 5-1 victory over Northeast-10 opponent Southern Connecticut State Wednesday evening in New Haven, Conn.

The Pioneers improved to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in NE-10 action with the win, while the Owls fell to 2-8 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

LIU Post opened up scoring with three unanswered goals in the first half. Dragon sank an unassisted tally in the 12th minute, while just under seven minutes later, sophomore Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) redirected a pass from graduate Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) to bring the score to 2-0. Not long after that, Dragon blasted a pass from freshman Lauren Adamusik (Clark, N.J.) past the goalie from mid-circle.

The Owls found their way on the scoreboard courtesy of Sarah Cebry with just over five minutes left in the first.

Dragon added two more goals in the second half, with the assists coming off the sticks of sophomore Heidi Schaffner (West Long Branch, N.J.) and Margiotta.

Freshman Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) earned her seventh win in goal, making six saves during the 70 minutes of play. Her counterpart, Audrey Dolloff, turned away nine shots in the loss.

The Pioneers held a 28-10 advantage in shots and an 11-8 edge in penalty corners.

Next up for LIU Post is a trip to Waltham, Mass. on Saturday (Oct. 12) for an NE-10 clash against Bentley. Play is set to start at 11 a.m.
