No. 1 Men's Soccer Scores Five First-Half Goals in 6-1 Rout of Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2013) - The No. 1 ranked LIU Post men's soccer team recorded five goals over an 11-minute stretch in the first half to beat Nyack, 6-1, in a non-conference duel Wednesday at Mosley Field in Nyack, N.Y. Five different players accounted for the Pioneers' tallies in the win.
Senior back Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) got his fourth goal in as many contests at the 21:12 mark to commence the scoring. His shot deflected off Nyack junior back Thomas McDonald (Rock Tavern, N.Y.), and into the back of the mesh.
Then, in the 26th minute, sophomore midfielder Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) tickled the twine to double LIU Post's cushion. Sophomore back Carl Lystad (Oslo, Norway) was credited with the assist. Lystad finished the match with a game-best six points, off two goals and a pair of assists.
Shortly after, junior forward Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway), Lystad, and freshman forward Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) scored 2:45 apart to put the game out of reach. Austboe's tally came off an unassisted effort, and was his team-leading 15th of the season.
In the 37th minute, the Warriors (4-6-1) recorded their lone goal of the tilt. Graduate back Alex Schmidt (Horburg-Masslau, Germany) struck the netting, off a feed from Marco Likos (Leipzig, Germany).
Between the pipes, senior goalkeeper Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) and junior netminder Mathias Spinnars (Ramnas, Sweden) finished with one save each for the Pioneers (11-0). Their counterpart, Tom Lohman (Berlin, Germany), knocked aside three shots for the visitors.
Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and his LIU Post squad return to the pitch Saturday (Oct. 9) at East Coast Conference rival Bridgeport. Action is set for a 3 p.m. start.
