BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2013) - Three minutes and 34 seconds into the overtime period, sophomore forward Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) buried the game winner, securing the fourth-ranked LIU Post field hockey team's 4-3 overtime victory against Northeast-10 rival and third-ranked Stonehill Saturday at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y.

The Pioneers close out their regular season perfect at 18-0, including a 10-0 mark in NE-10 play. Stonehill drops its second-straight, falling to 16-2 overall and 8-2 in conference action.

In the overtime period, Stonehill got the first shot off, as sophomore forward Erika Kelly took a wide-open shot from the left side that graduate midfielder Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) stepped in front of, making the defensive save. Less than a minute later, the Pioneers were granted a penalty corner. Margiotta took it, passed it to Crouse at the top of the circle, and as the defense was charging at her, she gave it right back to Margiotta, who was waiting right at the corner of the cage, and tapped it in for the score.

Prior to the game reaching overtime, the two squads battled goal-for-goal. The Skyhawks were the first to strike, when senior forward Kelly Gouveia fed junior forward Emily Sideris on a fast break for the score in the eighth minute. Just after that tally, senior forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) evened the score. She corralled her own rebound, and sent a reverse sweep into the lower left corner of the net.

The visitors re-gained the lead a few minutes later, when Sideris struck for her second of the game, after securing a rebound off the post.

The Pioneers were able to once again tie the score, as Crouse sent a reverse sweep pass by the goalie to freshman midfielder Lauren Adamusik (Clark, N.J.), who finished into the cage. With just about five minutes left in the first half, Margiotta tabbed her first score of the game, beating the goalie to the left flank.

With the green and gold leading 3-2 late into the second half, Kelly sent home a pass from Devin Ingersoll for the third tie score of the afternoon with just over seven minutes left in regulation.

Freshman Meredith Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) improved to 11-0 between the pipes, making six saves on the afternoon. Her counterpart, Elizabeth Genovese, turned aside 15 shots.

For the contest, LIU Post outshot Stonehill by a margin of 22-15. The Pioneers also held a 17-10 advantage in penalty corners.

LIU Post now receives a first-round bye in the NE-10 Tournament. It awaits the winner of the match-up between the fourth and fifth seeds that will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
