Austboe Recognized as Daktronics East Region Player of the Year
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 25, 2013) - Only a few hours after earning CoSIDA/Capital One Division II Academic All-American of the Year accolades, LIU Post junior forward
Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) was picked Monday as the Daktronics, Inc. Division II East Region Player of the Year.
Piling up the awards in 2013, Austboe landed on the Daktronics All-East Region first-team in the process. He has also been tabbed as the East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year thus far. Returning from a near career-ending concussion just a year ago, the Norwegian native led the league, and ranks third in the nation in each scoring category. Austboe finished with 58 points, on 24 goals and 10 assists.
The ECC Defensive Player of the Year,
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway), and sophomore midfielder
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway), got first-team nods as well. Bjoernoe, who tallied five goals, alongside nine helpers for a 19-point total, led a defensive unit that held the opposition to one goal per game. He, like Austboe, earned CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America first-team kudos earlier in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, Forgaard, the 2013 East Coast Conference Championship Most Outstanding Player, was LIU Post's fourth-best scorer at 16 points (4 G, 8 A). His eight assists sat him fourth amongst the ECC's leaders.
Senior forward
Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior midfielder
Jonathon Watkin (Doncaster, England) comprised the Pioneers' second-team representation. Turan checked in 16 points (4 G, 8 A) on the season, and garnered All-ECC second-team praise for his efforts.
Watkin, a CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America third-team selection, accumulated 16 points (6 G, 4 A) in his final year with the green and gold. As a result, he was also chosen to the All-ECC second-team.
LIU Post rounded out the 2013 campaign at 18-2-2 overall (8-0-2 ECC), and captured its second-straight East Coast Conference title. Plus, the Pioneers advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, before succumbing to eventual regional champion Southern New Hampshire by a 3-1 count.
