Dragon Claims Offensive Player of the Year Praise From Synapse Sports
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Nov. 29, 2013) - On Friday, Synapse Sports selected senior forward
Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) of the LIU Post field hockey team as its Offensive Player of the Year for Division II. Meanwhile,
Raenee Savin (Nesconset, N.Y.) received top coaching accolades.
Dragon, who was picked as an All-America first-team honoree as well, spearheaded the nation's top-scoring program with a 78-point output (31 G, 16 A). She led Division II in assists per game, and finished at a close second in points per game, and goals per game. Plus, the Bridgewater, N.J. native broke the green and gold's career and single-season marks for goals, assists and points along the way.
From the sidelines, Savin guided LIU Post to its best campaign in program history. The Pioneers rolled off 20 straight victories (21-1), and won the 2013 Northeast-10 title, before losing to Shippensburg in the NCAA Division II National Championship in overtime, 2-1.
Graduate defender
Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) and sophomore forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) accompanied Dragon on the All-America first-team roster. Crouse anchored a back line that limited opponents to the country's second-best goals-against clip of 0.85. She also tallied 26 points (6 G, 14 A) in the process.
Margiotta totaled 67 points (26 G, 15 A) on the year, and sat in the Top-5 amongst the NCAA's statistical leaders in each scoring category. A team-best seven of her tallies proved to be game-winners.
Lastly, freshman goalie
Meredith Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) was named to the All-Rookie squad. She posted a 14-1 record between the pipes, alongside a 0.86 goals-against average and a .790 save percentage, both of which ranked in the Top-5 in Division II.
