Austboe Grabs ECAC Offensive Player Of The Year Honors

CENTERVILLE, Mass. (Dec. 20, 2013) - The offseason kudos continued to roll in for the LIU Post men's soccer team Thursday, as junior forward
Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, while senior defender
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) and senior midfielder
Jonathon Watkin (Doncaster, England) got all-star nods.
Austboe was a force this season for the green and gold, netting 24 goals and dishing out 10 assists for 58 points. His goal and point totals were both tops in the East Coast Conference, and his assist total placed second. Nationally, the Stavanger, Norway product ranked third in goals, goals per game, and points per game. He finished 2013 fourth in the country in scoring.
Austboe led the Pioneers to an 18-2-2 overall record, and a trip to the NCAA Division II East Region final, where LIU Post fell to eventual national champion, Southern New Hampshire. He adds this award to his ECC Offensive Player of the Year and Daktronics National Player of the Year honors.
Bjoernoe anchored a defense that allowed just 0.97 goals per game, and was active on the offensive side as well. He added five goals and nine assists for a 19-point output. The Randaberg, Norway native was also named the ECC Defensive Player of the Year, and recognized on the CoSIDA/Capital One Division II Men's Soccer Academic All-America and Daktronics All-East Region first-team rosters.
Watikin totaled six goals and four assists for a 16-point effort in 2013. Two of those tallies were game-winners, including the clinching marker with 2.8 seconds remaining in a thrilling 2-1 victory against Mercy in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Championship.
