Austboe Named Daktronics National Player of the Year
EVANS, Ga. (Dec. 4, 2013) - On Wednesday, LIU Post junior forward
Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) was selected as the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year to headline the 2013 Daktronics Division II Men's Soccer All-America Team.
The honor is Austboe's fourth major award of 2013. He also earned East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, and Daktronics East Region Player of the Year kudos.
Austboe, who was an All-America first-team choice as well, scored 24 goals and 10 assists for 58 points this season for the Pioneers, all of which rank third-best in NCAA Division II, and lead the ECC.
Senior back
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) accompanied Austboe on the All-America first-team. He captained a defensive front that limited opponents to the third-lowest goals-against average (0.97) in the league, and added 19 points (5 G, 9 A) in the process.
Lastly, sophomore midfielder
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) claimed a spot on the second-team roster. Over 22 games (18 starts), he recorded four goals and eight helpers for a 16-point output. Forgaard's assist total is good for fourth-best in the conference, and 44th in the nation.
LIU Post concluded the 2013 campaign at 18-2-2 overall, and 8-0-2 versus ECC opposition. Plus, the Pioneers captured their second-straight league title, and secured a third-consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament bid.
