Baseball Earns Split at Queens College

Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 23, 2013) – In the first game of a twinbill, the LIU Post bullpen couldn't hold the lead as the Queens College Knights scored three in the bottom of the seventh to come away with the walk-off win.
 
Starter Mike Eckerle (Hewlett, N.Y.) pitched well for the Pioneers, going six innings and allowing one run on two hits. The sophomore struck out six and walked one.
 
The Pioneers out-hit the Knights, 7-3, including multi-hit games from Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) and Anthony Corona (Carmel, N.Y.).
 
The Pioneers and Knights meet again on March 24 in Brookville.

In the second game, the Pioneers offense exploded for 11 runs on 16 hits, shutting out the Knights, 11-0.

Herring added a hit, drove in two and scored two runs out of the leadoff spot.
 
Junior second baseman Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y) collected three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored out of the two spot as the 1-2 punch of Herring-McKay sparked the Pioneers offense.
 
Corona also added three hits, bringing his total to five on the afternoon. Senior Angel Pimentel (New York, N.Y) added two hits, two RBIs, a run scored, and two stolen bases, while Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y.) also added two hits, scored a run and stole a base.
 
Freshman David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.) contributed two hits and scored two runs.

On the mound, freshman righty Chris Anderson (West Islip, N.Y.) threw five solid innings. He allowed just four hits while striking out two and walking one.

Senior Marc Peretzman (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.) and junior Brandon Kruel (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) each contributed a scoreless inning of relief.

The Pioneers and Knights square off for the fourth and final game of the series on March 24 in Brookville.
