Arena's Complete Game Shutout Propels Baseball Past Dowling, 4-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 28, 2013) – Sophomore pitcher
Joey Arena (Lakeland, N.Y.) tossed a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out six in a 4-0 victory for the LIU Post baseball team over Dowling College on Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers snap an eight game skid as they now stand at 14-25 on the season and 6-14 in conference action, while Dowling evens at 18-18-1 overall and 12-8 in ECC action.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the third as junior
Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) drove in senior
Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) with a triple.
They doubled the lead in the fifth as Herring singled to right field, driving in sophomore
John Bellock (Glen Cove, N.Y.), who led off the inning with a double.
The Pioneers tacked on two more runs in the eighth on an infield miscue and Bellock sacrifice fly, providing more than enough run support for Arena, who had a career day in tossing his first collegiate shutout.
Herring led the Pioneers with two hits on the afternoon.
The Pioneers take on non-conference opponent Dominican this week on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
