No. 3 Men's Soccer Shuts Out Bloomfield, 2-0
Box Score
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Sept. 14, 2013) - Scoreless after one half of play, the third-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team notched two second-half goals Saturday en route to a 2-0 blanking of Bloomfield at the Purple Knight Classic in Bridgeport, Conn. Junior forward
Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) picked up his fourth game-winner in as many contests in the victory.
Austboe, who has now accumulated 14 points (5 G, 4 A) through the first four games, recorded the deciding tally in the 77th minute. He ripped a shot past Bloomfield (0-3) freshman keeper
Arthur Clapot (Annecy, France) from the middle of the 18-yard box, off a feed from senior back
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway).
Soon after, the Deacons had an opportunity to tie it, but Shacquille Brown's (Springfield, St. Thomas) attempt was saved by Pioneers' senior goalie
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark). Jorgensen finished with the match with two stops. His counterpart, Clapot, turned aside six shots.
In the final seconds, LIU Post got some much-needed insurance. With 21 short ticks to go, senior forward
Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.) gave a pass to sophomore midfielder
Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.), who struck for his first marker of the 2013 campaign, and closed things out.
For the game, the Pioneers held a 17-7 advantage in shots, and a 9-4 edge in corner kicks. Individually, Austboe led all players with five shots (two SOG).
Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg and his LIU Post squad return to action Wednesday (Sept. 18) at East Coast Conference nemesis Dowling. The opening whistle is at 7 p.m.
