Austboe's Five-Point Day Lifts No. 2 Men's Soccer Past Philadelphia, 4-1
Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2013) - Junior forward Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) continued his torrid offensive start Wednesday with a five-point effort, as the No. 2 ranked LIU Post men's soccer team beat Philadelphia, 4-1, in Brookville, N.Y. That output now sums up his scoring total to 23 points through seven games.
Austboe netted both of his tallies in the opening 4:02 of play. The first occurred only 35 seconds in, when sophomore midfielder Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) sent a cross-pass from the far side to the near post, which the Norwegian headed home, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 edge. Three-plus minutes later, Austboe got the other, finding the lower left corner of the netting, to double the hosts' lead.
Philadelphia (4-3) managed to cut the deficit in half just before halftime though. With 11:22 left, Patrick Groh (Macungie, Pa.) knocked in an Angelo Dambalas (Marlton, N.J.) corner kick.
In the latter stanza, LIU Post (7-0) senior keeper Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) was solid between the pipes, making four saves (three in 5:17), before the Pioneers tacked on a key insurance goal. Freshman forward Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) scored on a fast break in the 82nd minute to make it 3-1. Austboe was credited with the assist on the play.
Exactly five minutes after that goal, Kristjansson found sophomore midfielder Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) for the contest's final tally. Overall, LIU Post owned a 15-14 edge in shots, and a 9-5 clip in corner kicks.
In net, Jorgensen recorded seven saves for the green and gold. Meanwhile, Rams' starting goalie Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.J.) finished with four stops.
Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and his squad continue their four-game homestand Saturday (Sept. 28) in an East Coast Conference tilt with NYIT. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
