BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 8, 2014) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post women's basketball team got a career night from junior guard Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.), en route to beating Bridgeport, 81-65, in an East Coast Conference tilt at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y.

Williams led all players with her career-best 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including a 7-of-8 clip from beyond the arc. The Copiague native has now scored in double figures in 10 out of the team's 12 games.

The Pioneers (7-4, 4-1 ECC) scored the game's first nine points, capped by Williams' first trifecta of the game just over three minutes in. The green and gold eventually opened a 14-4 lead with 13:37 left in the first half after Williams hit her second trey of the contest, before Bridgeport (3-9, 1-5 ECC) netted a lay-up and a pair of free throws to get within six (14-8).

The two teams played a back-and-forth affair until the Pioneers outscored the Purple Knights, 10-8, over the final 4:56 of play to close out the opening stanza. LIU Post took a 38-28 lead into the break.

Williams finished with 15 first-half points off 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Nine of them came off three makes from downtown.

The Pioneers got 13 points from their reserves in the first half, including eight from senior forward Dominique Pagan (Bronx, N.Y.). She also collected eight rebounds in 12 minutes of play.

In the second half, Williams continued her hot shooting as she drilled her first three attempts from deep, the last of which gave the Pioneers a 50-37 advantage with 15:31 to go in regulation. After Bridgeport's Aziza Patterson hit a lay-up with 13:40 to go to bring the Purple Knights within nine (52-43), the visitors never got within single digits for the rest of the game.

Pagan finished with her second double-double of the season, chipping in a 10-point, 10-rebound effort. Senior guard Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) amassed 12 points and six assists, totaling double digits in points for the eighth time this season. Senior forward Nijah LaCourt (Bronx, N.Y.) had 11 points and nine rebounds.

LIU Post dominated underneath, out-rebounding Bridgeport, 57-27.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Jan. 11), when they host ECC rival Dowling at the Pratt Recreation Center. The opening tip is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
