BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2014) - On Wednesday, the 25th-ranked LIU Post women's soccer team battled East Coast Conference rival Dowling to a 2-2 tie at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Pioneers (10-1-1, 5-0-1 ECC) and Golden Lions (8-3-2, 5-1-1 ECC) played a tough, physical game that saw two separate heavy doses of rain affect the field conditions late in the match.

LIU Post got on the scoreboard firstthe 27th minute. Junior back Katie LaManna (Smithtown, N.Y.) sent a cross into the box, which junior forward Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) connected with and put into the net.

Less than four minutes later, Dowling would answer. After a scramble in front of the net, Kelly McQuail cleaned up the mess by blasting a shot that got behind sophomore keeper Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) for the equalizer.

In the 33rd minute, Vistnes showed her offensive skills again to shoot the Pioneers back out in front. The junior dribbled around a defender and ripped a shot that Dowling's keeper, Melissa Guglielmo, got her hands on, but it wasn't enough to keep the ball out of the net.

The Pioneers eventually took a 2-1 lead into halftime. In addition, LIU Post held a 10-3 shot advantage and a 5-3 edge after the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Dowling came out looking to get even. In the 54th minute, the Golden Lions won a corner from the far side. Christina Cottone sent the ball in and McQuail got her head on it, sending the header into the top right corner of the goal for her second game-tying marker of the match.

Both teams battled throughout the remainder of regulation. The Pioneer defense held off a steady Golden Lion attack that saw Dowling get off seven shots in the second half. Agnarsdottir made three saves in the latter stanza, while Guglielmo had two for Dowling.

In the first overtime session, neither squad seemed to gain an advantage. The teams were held shotless and were forced to play a second 10-minute overtime period.

As time was running out in the second overtime period, LaManna sent a ball high into the air towards senior back Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.). Bellone was able to get behind the defense for a one-on-one with the keeper, but the ball took a hop away from her, spoiling the Pioneers' final chance. Both teams managed a shot in the final 10 minutes, but neither was able to find the mesh.

Head Coach Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to action on Monday (Oct. 20), when they hit the road for the first game of a five-game road trip that will close out their regular season. LIU Post will take on Philadelphia U. at 3:30 p.m.
