GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2014) - Junior forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) and freshman forward
Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) each had two goals on Tuesday, as the No. 5 LIU Post field hockey team defeated No. 7 Adelphi, 5-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference clash at Motamed Field. With the win, the Pioneers moved to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the NE-10.
The green and gold were on the board first after graduate defender
Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) found the back of the cage off a Margiotta corner at 11:13. LIU Post held an 8-3 edge through the first 35 minutes of action, and the Pioneers' one-goal advantage stood through the remainder of the half.
Just three minutes into the second period, Margiotta converted a scramble in front of the net into a Pioneer tally to give the green and gold a two-goal lead. At 41:41, Zelkovsky found the back of the cage from the top of the circle off a Margiotta penalty corner. She added her second goal four minutes later off the stick of
Abi Sawyer (Wakefield, West Yorkshire). Margiotta capped off LIU Post's offensive strike with a 65:39 tally from
Stephanie Ruhle (Wanaque, N.J.).
The Pioneers collected 19 total shots, while the LIU Post back line allowed the Panthers (9-4, 4-2 NE-10) only five. Sophomore goalkeeper
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) recorded three saves and her eighth victory on the year.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and the Pioneers are back in action Saturday (Nov. 1), when they face No. 9 Saint Michaels in Colchester, Vt. at 11 a.m.
