ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2014) - On Friday night, the LIU Post men's soccer team used an offensive outburst in the first half, en route to a 6-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan in an East Coast Conference tilt in Rochester.
The Pioneers (12-3-1, 7-1-1 ECC) have now won eight straight games, while Roberts Wesleyan (9-6-2, 4-5 ECC) has lost two in a row.
LIU Post found itself leading by four goals less than 21 minutes in to the match. The reigning ECC Rookie of the Year, sophomore forward
Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) netted his second tally of the season less than 10 minutes into the game. Graduate forward
Dale McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) found a streaking Kristjansson with a through ball, and the sophomore was able to convert for the early 1-0 lead.
McDonald followed with his own goal in the 16th minute. The graduate student corralled a ball in the air, brought it to his feet and beat the Redhawks' keeper for the 2-0 cushion.
In the 20th minute, McDonald got a pass from junior midfielder
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) in the box. The graduate subsequently sent it home to make it a 3-0 game.
A little over a minute later, McDonald scored his third of the match. This time, Forgaard sent a pass to the streaking graduate student, who then beat the keeper for his second marker.
The Pioneers outshot Roberts Wesleyan, 7-1, in the first half. Junior keeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) only saw the one shot, but wasn't required to make a save in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, both Forgaard and Kristjansson added to the scoresheet. Forgaard collected his second tally of the match in the 52nd minute, while Kristjansson found the back of the mesh off an assist from freshman back
Ian Jonsson (Stockholm, Sweden) in the 58th minute.
The Pioneer defense held the Redhawks shotless in the second half as Malmstrom had an easy night in net for LIU Post. The sophomore improved his record to 11-2-1.
Head Coach
