BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2014) - In its first dual since being disbanded in 1988, the LIU Post wrestling team toppled Stony Brook, 47-3, at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers (1-0) collected four wins in the match via forfeit, three by major decision, one by technical fall, and one by pinfall.
In the 125-lb. weight class, sophomore
Tyler Walsh (West Islip, N.Y.) got a takedown and five near fall points in the first period on the Seawolves' Eric Overton, en route to a 12-3 victory. Then, at 133, senior
Francisco Viera-Pereira (Huntington Station, N.Y.) took little time to defeat his opponent, pinning Jon Crespo in 57 seconds.
Freshman
Matt Langan (Wantagh, N.Y.) and red-shirt freshman
Jackson Mordente (Farmingville, N.Y.) majored their opposition at 149 and 157, respectively. Langan bested Joe Nikolic, 10-1, while Mordente defeated Darren Sarigenise, 13-1.
Lastly, at the 197-lb. weight class, senior
Chris DiIorio (Holtsville, N.Y.) collected four takedowns and four near fall points in just the first period, as he won via technical fall against Connor Watson, 25-9.
