No. 14 Women's Soccer Falls to Bridgeport in ECC Semifinals, 3-1
Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2014) - On Wednesday, the 14th-ranked and top-seeded LIU Post women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to fourth-seeded Bridgeport in the semifinals of the 2014 East Coast Conference Championship at Pioneer Soccer Park.
It didn't take long for the Purple Knights (13-3-2) to strike first. Roughly four-and-a-half minutes into the match, sophomore forward Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) tapped the ball into an open net to give UB the early 1-0 edge. Prior to the goal being scored, sophomore goalie
Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) misplayed the angle in front of the net, which led to the opportunity.
Miscommunication befell the Pioneers (14-2-1) again in the 31st minute, and awarded the visitors another goal. This time, freshman forward Sophie Sorkvist (Orebro, Sweden) found the back of the mesh, doubling Bridgeport's advantage at 2-0.
Just over a minute into the second half, the Purple Knights, who held a 2-0 cushion at halftime, sealed LIU Post's fate. Moura headed a Tabea Rauschenberger (Muhlacker, Germany) rebound inside the right post to make it a three-score game.
The Pioneers only recorded two shots on net in the contest. Sophomore midfielder
Sarah McGarry (Islip, N.Y.), the green and gold's lone goal-scorer on the day, had one of them. Senior back
Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) was credited with the assist on McGarry's 73rd-minute tally.
Between the pipes, Agnarsdottir made four saves for LIU Post. Her counterpart, freshman goalie Kaitlin Occhipinti (Islip, N.Y.), stopped one shot for Bridgeport.
