Cross Country Places Third at ECC Championships

Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) and
Mike Scott's (Fultonville, N.Y.) first- and second-place finishes, respectively, the LIU Post women's and men's cross country squads finished third in Saturday's East Coast Conference Cross Country Championships. Placing within the top fourteen, the conference recognized Williams, as well as freshman
Thomas Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.) as the ECC Men's and Women's Rookies of the Year, while Williams added the conference Runner of the Year award to her standout 2014 campaign.
For the women, Williams finished first over all 91 competitors, at 18:23.7 with a 5:56 mile pace, earning her ECC Runner and Rookie of the Year honors, as well as conference first-team recognition. Just 30 seconds later, junior
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) crossed the finish line ninth. She raced to a conference second-team accolade.
Lauren Hoffman (Melville, N.Y.) and
Shaylyn Stehl (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished consecutively, at 18th and 19th, with 19:46.1 and 19:46.6 marks.
Brooke Rozea (Syosset, N.Y.) and
Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.) capped-off the Pioneer effort at 20:01.4 and 20:37.1, respectively. The green and gold placed third out of nine wth a 19:22.2 team average time.
On the men's side, Scott placed second over all 75 conference competitors, at 25:32.1 with a 5:09 mile pace, earning him ECC first-team honors.
Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) completed the course at 26:42.0, slotting him 12th and recognizing him as a conference second-team selection. Flynn placed fourteenth overall at 26:55.8. With that mark, the freshman was tabbed East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, while securing a slot on the conference second-team. Sophomore
Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman
Ryan Gioe (Huntington Station, N.Y.) completed the Pioneer effort at 28:03.8 and 28:48.5, respectively. The LIU Post men's squad placed third out of nine with a 27:12.5 team average time.
