TROY, N.Y. (Nov. 29, 2014) - On Saturday, the LIU Post wrestling team tested its metal against a pair of Division I opponents at the Journeymen/Asics Northeast Duals. The Pioneers lost by respective scores of 48-0 and 44-0 to Old Dominion and Binghamton.

In the defeat against ODU, senior Francisco Viera-Pereira (Huntington Station, N.Y.) dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision to Michael Hayes (Stafford, Va.) in the 133-lb. bout. Then, at 165, freshman Corey Ashe (Patchogue, N.Y.) earned a pair of escape points, but it wasn't enough in a 12-2 loss to Austin Eads (Lee's Summit, Mo.).

Lastly, at 197, senior Chris DiIorio (Holtsville, N.Y.) managed a reversal on the Monarchs' Kevin Beazley (Howell, Mich.) in each of the first two periods. Yet, three near-fall points in the opening stanza was the deciding factor in an 8-5 loss.

Later in the afternoon, LIU Post met Binghamton with a similar result. The Bearcats won three bouts by major decision, two by pinfall and one by technical fall.

In the 157-lb. weight class, a first-period takedown by BU's Vincent DePrez (Hilton, N.Y.) set the tone versus red-shirt freshman Jackson Mordente (Farmingville, N.Y.). Mordente, despite picking up an escape point, lost a tight 4-1 decision.

Head Coach Joe Patrovich and the Pioneers return to the mat next Saturday (Dec. 6), when they face off with NYU and Hunter at the NYU Tri-Match in New York, N.Y.
