No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Knocks Off Bentley in Disney, 17-2

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Mar. 12, 2014) - At the "Happiest Place on Earth", the top-ranked LIU Post women's lacrosse team came away with a 17-2 victory against Bentley on Wednesday in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Senior attacker Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) registered a game-high six points (2 G, 4 A) in the win. Fellow senior attacker Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) tallied four goals and an assist for a five-point effort. Freshman attacker and reigning East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) collected four points (3 G, 1 A).

Senior attacker Morgan Chiarenza (Nesconset, N.Y.) notched a three-point showing (2 G, 1 A). Freshman defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick. Freshman midfielder Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) dished out a pair of assists.

Leading 3-2 more than halfway into the opening stanza, the Pioneers (4-0) scored seven unanswered goals to head into halftime ahead by a 10-2 score. Chiarenza, Vagelatos and Sileo each put home two goals in the run. Losco chipped in a marker and an assist.

During the latter session, LIU Post kept Bentley (0-2) off the board, while netting another seven consecutive goals. Douglas accounted for three of them. Losco added a pair of unassisted tallies. Sophomore attacker Jessica Marsh (Sayville, N.Y.) capped off the scoring at the 3:12 mark.

Between the pipes, senior goalie Katie Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) made a game-best nine saves for the Pioneers, who held a 33-14 advantage in shots, and converted on 90.0 percent (18-for-20) of their clears. Senior cageminder Ally Dorman (Simsbury, Conn.) had five saves for the Falcons.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad return to action Thursday (Mar. 13), when they square off with non-conference foe Saint Leo in Saint Leo, Fla. The opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
