SAINT LEO, Fla. (Mar. 13, 2014) - On Thursday, senior attacker Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) amassed a season-high 10 points, all in the first half, as the No. 1 LIU Post women's lacrosse team closed out its visit to the Sunshine State with a 19-6 win at Saint Leo in Saint Leo, Fla.

The Pioneers (5-0) jumped out to a fast start in the game, notching nine unanswered goals in the opening 10:32. Sileo had three tallies and added two assists in that stretch. Junior midfielder Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) and freshman defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) each pitched in two goals.

More than a minute after that run ended, the Lions (5-2) got on the board via a Joanna Chadwick (Tampa, Fla.) free-position marker. That cut the Saint Leo deficit to 9-1. However, LIU Post finished the period strong, scoring four of the last six goals of the half to bring a comfortable 14-3 cushion into the break. Sileo was the key catalyst once again, amassing two tallies and three helpers.

In the second half, the visitors picked up right from where they left off. Senior attacker Morgan Chiarenza (Nesconset, N.Y.) found the back of the cage only 1:40 in to widen the lead to 15-3. Soon after that, the Nesconset, N.Y. native fed Douglas, who picked up her third goal of the contest. Chiarenza also assisted on a tally by sophomore attacker Jessica Marsh (Sayville, N.Y.) with 10:45 to go.

Overall, LIU Post doubled up Saint Leo in shots, while holding an 18-16 edge in ground balls, and a 16-11 advantage in draws.

Senior midfielder Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) collected four points (3 G, 1 A) and four draw controls on the afternoon. Freshman attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), like Douglas, picked up a hat trick. Chiarenza and senior attacker/midfielder Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) racked up three points (1 G, 2 A) and three draws apiece. Losco scooped up two ground balls as well. Junior defender Kali Maxwell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and sophomore defender/midfielder Honey Roche (Oceanside, N.Y.) both caused two turnovers.

Between the pipes, senior goalie Katie Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) recorded three saves for the Pioneers, who converted on 16-of-18 (88.8 percent) clears, and 3-of-5 (60.0 percent) free-position shots. Brittany Millsap (St. Louis, Mo.) and Kaylyn Kearns (Orlando, Fla.) combined for eight stops for the Lions.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad now head to Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday (Mar. 15) to face Holy Family in a non-conference showdown. The opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m.
