Field Hockey Receives NFHCA Division II Academic Team Award
CHANDLER, Ariz. (Mar. 18, 2014) - The LIU Post field hockey team was honored Tuesday with the NFHCA Division II National Academic Team Award. The accolade recognizes programs that combined to achieve a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in the Fall 2013 semester.
The Pioneers finished with a team GPA of 3.24, and were one of 17 NCAA Division II institutions to earn the award. The top school in terms of grade-point average was Slippery Rock, which attained a 3.56 GPA for the fall semester.
Earning a GPA of 3.3 or higher this past fall, six members of the green and gold were named to the Gladiator All-Academic squad. Leading the way was graduate defender
Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) with an unblemished 4.0. The next highest came from freshman forward
Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.), who recorded a 3.78 GPA in her first collegiate semester. Junior forward
Karina Fleming (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), sophomore defender
Heidi Schaffner (West Long Branch, N.J.), freshman goalie
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) and sophomore forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) rounded out the Pioneers on the list with GPAs of 3.67, 3.63, 3.6, and 3.51, respectively.
LIU Post dominated the 2013 field hockey campaign with a 21-1 ledger on the season, including regular-season and postseason championships in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Pioneers were also national finalists, losing in the NCAA Division II National Championship game to Shippensburg, 2-1, on Nov. 24.
