Box Score
FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 22, 2014) - On Saturday, the No. 1 LIU Post women's lacrosse team outshot Queens by a commanding 35-6 count, and rolled to a 16-2 win at Knights' Field in Flushing, N.Y. The victory improves the Pioneers to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the East Coast Conference.
Senior forward
Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) recorded another strong showing, tallying three goals and four assists for a game-high seven points. With that, she now has 61 points for the year, which is 20 short of becoming the NCAA's (I, II, III) all-time leading scorer. Sileo also scooped up two ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers in the contest.
It didn't take long for LIU Post to get on the board. Sileo and fellow senior attacker
Morgan Chiarenza (Nesconset, N.Y.), who was one of three players on the afternoon with three points, hooked up for the game's first goal just 20 seconds in. From there, the green and gold ripped off 11 more unanswered tallies to carry a 12-0 lead into halftime.
Sileo racked up all seven of her points in the opening 30 minutes of play. Freshman attacker
Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) had four points (2 G, 2 A), while senior attacker
Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) collected three points. The West Islip, N.Y. product won two of her three draws in the period as well.
During the latter half, freshman defender
Nicole Stackpole (North Bellmore, N.Y.) started the scoring three-plus minutes in with her first collegiate goal. She would add one more marker in the stanza. Sophomore defender/midfielder
Kaitlin Gaghan (North Massapequa, N.Y.) chipped in a tally and two helpers over the final 6:36.
In addition to the overwhelming margin of shots, the Pioneers owned a 17-9 edge in ground balls and a 15-4 advantage in draw controls. Plus, the visitors were a perfect 13-of-13 on clears.
Between the pipes, senior goaltenders
Katie Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) and
Renee Schwartz (Lockport, N.Y.), along with sophomore
Kasey Kephart (Nesconset, N.Y.), registered one save apiece. For Queens (0-4, 0-1 ECC), senior Kahli Evans (Adelaide, Australia) totaled 16 stops.
Head Coach
Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad continue their four-game road swing Thursday (Mar. 27) in Worcester, Mass. at Assumption. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
