BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 12, 2014) - Trailing 7-5 early on in the second half, the No. 1 LIU Post women's lacrosse team used a 6-1 run to rally to an 11-9 victory against 15th-ranked Stonehill Saturday at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y.

The opening 30 minutes were a back-and-forth affair, as the two squads exchanged five tied scores and three lead changes. The Pioneers (14-0) and Skyhawks (8-5) would head into halftime in a 5-5 stalemate.

In the latter stanza, Stonehill got out to a quick start, collecting two goals over the first six-plus minutes to grab a 7-5 edge. Junior attacker Cassandra McGill (Westborough, Mass.) netted the go-ahead tally, and assisted on the other.

LIU Post fired back though with three unanswered markers in a stint of 1:43 to re-gain the lead at 8-7. Three different players found the back of the cage in the spurt for the hosts. Senior attacker Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) accounted for two of the helpers.

The Skyhawks' Kelsey Shannahan (Mendham, N.J.) then evened the score (8-8) at the 18:07 mark, until another three-goal run by the green and gold put the game away for good. Senior midfielder Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) notched the deciding marker. Junior midfielder Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) and freshman defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) chipped in key insurance tallies just 1:22 apart.

Sileo finished the contest with a seven-point effort (1 G, 6 A). Rotan picked up a hat trick and caused two turnovers, while senior attacker/midfielder Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.) had two goals and one assist. Freshman attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) added a two-goal day. Douglas chipped in three ground balls and two caused turnovers, in addition to her one goal.

Sophomore defender/midfielder Honey Roche (Oceanside, N.Y.) won two ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Junior midfielder Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) accumulated four draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover.

Between the pipes, senior goalie Katie Hannan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) made six saves for LIU Post, which won the shot (20-19) and ground ball (15-11) battles. Her counterpart, Ashley Armstrong (Northborough, Mass.), stopped five shots for Stonehill.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and the Pioneers are back in action next Saturday (Apr. 19) against UDC in their 2014 regular-season home finale. The opening draw is slated for noon. Prior to the contest, the team will recognize its departing players as part of the annual "Senior Day" festivities.
