BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 5, 2014) - On Saturday, the LIU Post men's lacrosse team, behind a strong first half, routed Dominican, 16-3, in an East Coast Conference clash at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y.

The Pioneers (6-3, 5-1 ECC) got out to a hot start in the contest, scoring five unanswered goals. Graduate attackman/midfielder Joe Costello (Minneapolis, Minn.) recorded two tallies in the run, one of which occurred on the man-up. Freshman attackman Andrew Gonzalez (Sayville, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist.

Dominican's Tanner Olsen (Chilliwack, Canada) would respond with an even-strength goal before the end of the first quarter, but the Pioneers held a 5-1 lead at the conclusion of the first 15-minute session. Olsen picked up a hat trick to pave the way for the Chargers (1-8, 0-4 ECC) offensively.

In the second quarter, the green and gold caged four unanswered markers to widen their advantage to 9-1. Three of those goals were netted in a stint of 1:05. Junior attackman Chris Caiazza (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) accounted for a pair of the scores, while senior attackman/midfielder Connor Mackay (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) and sophomore attackman Anthony DeLuca (West Islip, N.Y.) tickled the twine on unassisted efforts.

LIU Post, which outshot Dominican by a four-to-one margin (61-15), eventually brought a 10-3 cushion into the intermission. The hosts also owned a commanding 50-16 edge in ground balls, and converted on 16-of-17 (94.1 percent) clear attempts.

The latter portion of the game was all Pioneers. They held the Chargers off the board in the final 30 minutes, and struck for six goals in the process. Sophomore midfielder Gary Ricca (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and freshman attackman/midfielder Maxwell Chin (Hauppauge, N.Y.) each tallied their first collegiate markers to cap the scoring.

Defensively, senior T.J. McAndrew (Randolph, N.J.) scooped up nine ground balls and caused seven turnovers. Junior Justin Woodley (Bloomington, Minn.) amassed two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

In the cage, junior James Doherty (Deer Park, N.Y.), sophomore Billy Ardamis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman David Hwang (Hauppauge, N.Y.) made one save apiece for LIU Post. Dominican's Matthew Quinones (Nanuet, N.Y.) stopped 23 shots.

Head Coach John Jez and the Pioneers now head to Erie, Pa. for a showdown at Mercyhurst. The opening faceoff is slated for noon.
