2014 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America Division II Softball Team
TOWSON, Md. (May 21, 2014) - LIU Post senior shortstop
Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America first-team Wednesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Hagenah, a four-year starter, is the first CoSIDA Academic All-American from the Pioneers' softball program since 2003. Former standout pitcher/outfielder
Julianne Lovejoy was named to the Academic All-America third-team that season.
The Commack, N.Y. native graduated from LIU Post nearly two weeks ago with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. She boasted an impressive cumulative grade-point average of 3.72 in the process.
Hagenah, an All-ECC and NFCA All-Region first-team choice, is set to compete at the NCAA Division II National Championship for the second time in her career. She is currently hitting at a .411 clip (79-for-192) with 15 home runs and 53 RBIs. The shortstop has also scored a league-leading 79 runs, while legging out 15 doubles and three triples.
In addition, Hagenah's .755 slugging and .472 on-base percentage respectively rank fourth, and fifth-best in the ECC. For her efforts, she was named to the Daktronics All-East Region second-team as well.
Hagenah was the East Region's lone representative on the Academic All-America first-team. Dowling's Crystal Tarango made the second-team, whereas Caldwell's Alyssa Calderon and Holy Family's Danielle McDevitt were third-team all-stars.
Hagenah and the Pioneers kick off play at the NCAA Division II College World Series on Thursday (May 22), when they square off with No. 1 West Texas A&M at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. All of the action can be viewed live on NCAA.com.
